Fiber Optic & Copper Cable Testing and Certification
Tested, Certified and Documented
Demarc tests, certifies and troubleshoots fiber optic and copper cabling for colleges, municipalities, telecom carriers and commercial facilities across New England.
Our technicians use EXFO fiber test equipment and Fluke Versiv certifiers to verify cable performance, find faults and hand you documented test results. We test our own installs, and we audit cabling put in by other contractors.
- OTDR and OLTS Fiber Testing
- Cat6 and Cat6A Certification to TIA 568
- CWDM / DWDM, PON and DAS Testing
- Fiber Characterization and Troubleshooting
- Third Party Installation Audits
Our Testing Services
Fiber Optic Testing
- OTDR Testing: find fiber faults, measure distance and check splice and connector performance.
- OLTS Testing and Certification: measure end to end optical loss and verify each link against the project requirements.
- Fiber Inspection: inspect connector end faces for contamination and damage.
- CWDM / DWDM Testing: verify wavelength division links.
- Fiber Characterization: know what your existing fiber can carry before an upgrade or new service.
- Fiber Troubleshooting: locate excessive loss, damaged fiber and other physical layer problems.
Copper Testing and Certification
- Cat6 and Cat6A Certification: certify installed copper to TIA 568 with Fluke Versiv certifiers.
- Permanent Link and Channel Testing: verify copper performance to TIA 568 standards and the project specs.
- Copper Troubleshooting: find wiring faults, excessive cable length and performance problems.
- Certification Reports: documented pass or fail results with the test measurements for every link.
Third Party Installation Audits
Had cabling installed by another contractor and want to know it was done right? We test it, document what passes and what doesn’t, and give you a report you can hold the installer to.
Professional Test Equipment
Our technicians use EXFO fiber test equipment, optical power meters and Fluke Versiv certifiers on new installs, troubleshooting calls and closeout testing.
Whether you’re commissioning a new network, upgrading a campus backbone or chasing a cabling problem, Demarc gives you the test data and documentation to evaluate your infrastructure.
Recent Testing Work
- Cambridge Housing Authority and SELCO: tens of thousands of point to point fiber tests across residential buildings and municipal fiber builds, with OTDR and loss results documented for every link.
- Boston College Data Center: MPO fiber testing on high density data center links.
- Boston College Law School: Cat6A cabling upgrade tested and certified to TIA 568.
- Hanscom Air Force Base: fiber tested and certified on a federal installation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Network Cabling Testing
How much does fiber optic and copper cable testing cost?
Testing costs depend on the number of cable runs, cable type, site conditions, required certification standards and reporting requirements. Demarc provides project specific quotes for fiber optic and copper cabling testing throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire and the surrounding New England region.
How do I know if my Cat6 or Cat6A network cabling meets industry standards?
Professional cable certification verifies whether installed cabling meets applicable performance standards. Demarc uses Fluke cable certifiers to test Cat6 and Cat6A copper cabling against relevant TIA requirements and provides documented results for project acceptance.
What is the difference between OTDR and OLTS fiber optic testing?
OTDR testing helps identify fiber faults and evaluate splice and connector events. OLTS testing measures the total optical loss of a fiber link to verify whether it meets the specified loss budget. Demarc performs both types of testing based on project requirements.
Can Demarc test existing network cabling installed by another contractor?
Yes. Demarc can test existing fiber optic and copper cabling, investigate network cabling problems and verify installation performance. Testing can support troubleshooting, network upgrades and project acceptance.
Will I receive certification reports after testing?
Yes. Demarc provides documented testing results based on the project scope, including Fluke copper certification reports, fiber optic loss measurements and OTDR test results. These records help IT departments, facility managers and contractors verify installation performance and complete project closeout.
Does Demarc provide network cabling testing for colleges, commercial buildings and municipal facilities?
Yes. Demarc provides fiber optic and copper network cabling testing for higher education campuses, commercial facilities, municipalities and telecommunications infrastructure throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont. Services include new installation certification, troubleshooting and testing of existing cabling.
Need Your Network Tested or Certified?
Whether you’re commissioning new cabling, troubleshooting an existing network or getting ready for project closeout, Demarc tests your fiber and copper and hands you documented results. Call 978-419-0400 or send us your project details below.
About Demarc Telecom & Utility LLC
Demarc Telecom & Utility LLC is a minority owned fiber optic and network infrastructure contractor based in Tyngsborough, Massachusetts. Our owners, Randy Evans and Steve Dumont, bring more than 30 years in the electric utility and telecom trades, and Demarc has been in the field since 2014. What started as one man running OTDR trace reports is now a 20 person crew working across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, southern Maine and southern Vermont.
We build the whole path from the street to the server and beyond: outside plant and pole line construction, fiber splicing and testing, inside plant cabling and data center work, all under one contract. We work for federal government agencies, colleges and universities, municipalities, telecommunications carriers and commercial facilities.
Demarc is a Massachusetts SDO and NMSDC certified MBE and holds the state’s ITT85 Category 1 cabling contract.
